A new year is here and we are ready!!
There are a number of changes taking place this year, and the VHIMA board is working to be a part of the change, and keep information flowing to our members.
AHIMA is Ending Engage: It is only a matter of days until Engage will sunset and Access will soon take over. If you are a member of the Engage Community, you are encouraged to download anything that is frequently used, because there can be no guarantee that all information will convey.
The new platform will be called Access. AHIMA describes Access as: “…an up to date, modern, robust digital community platform where members can engage with AHIMA, fellow HI professionals, and other content. You can join communities based on your type of work, professional interests, and much more.” Access is anticipated to be more robust, offering a new level of communication and ability to align with communities that fit the interests of each individual.
Annual meeting: This year, we are excited to be a part of the Quad meeting that includes four states: Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. I attended the 2019 Quad meeting, and was thrilled with the content, speakers, and overall attendance. Amid COVID-19 changes, final preparations are still being made. Please stay tuned for more information as plans are finalized.
“Make Room to Zoom” meetings: We have found a way to stay connected and share information from the comfort of our homes. 11:00am on the second Saturday of each month is designated as VHIMA’s Make Room to Zoom meeting. This is time dedicated for VHIMA members to share their thoughts on specific health information topics, and provide directional guidance to the board. All are invited to participate, with occasional participation from AHIMA staff. All Zoom meetings are recorded and available at: https://www.vhima.org/continuing-education/make-room-to-zoom/.
VHIMA nominations: Time has passed so quickly this year!! It is now time for nominations of those who will be selected to serve on the VHIMA board during the 2021-2022 year. It is so important to encourage involvement. Please submit your recommendations to: https://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/2462269/7a4e8764868b
We are looking for hard-working individuals who have a passion for the HIM field, like change, and have a desire to be involved.
As Virginians, let’s continue our engagement, renew our commitment, and make our voices heard. Please take the time to reach out to myself or any of the VHIMA board for any suggestions you may have as we venture through the remainder of this fiscal year.
Kimberly W. Spencer, VHIMA President 2020-21
