Spring is here!!
Spring is in full bloom, and we are excited to be moving past the COVID impacts of 2020.
AHIMA Access is now fully operational and offers a variety of options for connecting with others in the HIM field. Participants can now limit notifications, streamline the flow of information, and align with specific groups most relevant to work specialties.
NEWS FROM AHIMA: AHIMA has proposed modifications to the HIPAA Privacy Rule. Tennessee hosted an informational webinar with member interaction on March 29th in which details of the modifications were reviewed. Each informational item and the recorded webinar have been submitted for posting on the VHIMA Resources page for Virginia members to review and comment. Please send your comments to: firstname.lastname@example.org. Now is the time for OUR voices, in Virginia, to be heard on a national level.
Annual meeting: This year, we are excited to be a part of the Quad meeting that includes four states: Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. Our meeting is scheduled for the third week in October and is on track to be an in-person event. If planning to attend, please make your room reservations soon. Resort rooms were very quick to fill in 2019. It will be wonderful to see everyone again!
“Make Room to Zoom” meetings: The VHIMA board continues to connect with members on the second Saturday of each month. This is time dedicated for VHIMA members to share their thoughts on specific health information topics and provide directional guidance to the board. All are invited to participate, with occasional participation from AHIMA staff. All Zoom meetings are recorded and available at: https://www.vhima.org/continuing-education/make-room-to-zoom/.
VHIMA nominations: Time has passed so quickly this year!! It is now time for nominations of those who will be selected to serve on the VHIMA board during the 2021-2022 year. We are looking for hard-working individuals who have a passion for the HIM field, like change, and have a desire to be involved. It is so important to encourage involvement. Please select qualified members and submit your nominations here. The opportunity for nominations will close on April 16th.
As Virginians, let’s continue our engagement, renew our commitment, and have our voices heard. Please take the time to reach out to myself or any of the VHIMA board for suggestions you may have as we venture through the remainder of this fiscal year.
Kimberly W. Spencer, VHIMA President 2020-21
