During the VHIMA presentation conducted by Elizabeth Lawrence, Elizabeth promised to respond to a question after the conference. The question and her response are:
What is the current ruling for State Psych Hospital for IMD 15 day?
MCO’s may allow members aged 21-64 to be admitted to a freestanding psychiatric hospital (IMD) as a covered service that is provided “in lieu of” state plan services (acute care hospitals).
The 15 days is a per month allowance so if a member is admitted on the 25th of the month the visit can be extended in the following month if needed.
FFS members aged 21-64 are not covered in an IMD setting.
